DEFINING MSP RULE - BLIND FIRE
Blind Fire is probably the one thing that annoys Military Style Paintball(MSP) players the most and leads to screaming and swearing on the playing field.
MSP Rule book defines Blind Fire as follows:
#MSP BLIND FIRE - If you are shooting, then your opponent must be able to shoot back and be able to hit you on a Vital(Torso and Head excluding Arms). If you are shooting and the opponent can’t hit you because the opponent can only see the Marker/Gun you are Blind Firing.
Example: if you are behind a tire bunker. You are not allowed to push your barrel through the gaps and shoot.
Example: if you are in a bus, car or building. You can’t look through a glass window and shoot through a gap while standing behind the glass.
Example: if you literally push your gun around a bunker without seeing where you are aiming.
Example: if you are hiding behind your Marker/Gun.

The blind fire rule is a very tricky topic to control and to ref, players often feel that the strategy they are using allows them to shoot from a situation that others consider as “blind fire”, the bottom line is that if you shoot at an opponent the opponent should have equal opportunity to shoot you on a vital area, as long as you give him that you are not blind firing…

Very interesting subject:
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the principle behind this issue and will play the game accordingly.
As mentioned above, it is extremely difficult to manage unless it is blatant. It also means the opposing player must shout out the transgression and in the process and give up his position in the game.
I would like to be Devils Advocate for a second:
Players are always reminded to play the so called "war" scenario. If this is the case then any individual is going to make use of whatever cover he can to gain the advantage. I would assume that it would be the opponents duty to flush the player out where possible.
Just as much as the shooter is shooting at the opponent continuously and he doesn't have a chance to shoot back from his position because he will put himself in direct fire, and in most cases loose the battle. In this case the opponent should be able to use the cover to his advantage to be able to fire back in order to break the advantage the shooter has. In war scenario no person is willingly going to give up cover or put himself in the line of fire to give his opponent the advantage.
"Example: if you are in a bus, car or building. You can’t look through a glass window and shoot through a gap while standing behind the glass."
The above example I totally agree with - Not on!
Also ask the question: How many players have been taken out through the gaps in the bunkers? The markers these days are so accurate that players who are using gaps in the bunkers to shoot stand just as much risk of being shot as anywhere else.
One more thing:
Shooting through a gap at an opponent, I would in this case consider that tactical blind fire. As long as it is not reckless firing or in the above example from behind glass where if real guns were involved he would have been taken out.
As they say, every dog has his day, in one game you have the advantage to shoot from a gap as much as any other opponent has the same advantage.
Ok, enough devil advocate stuff.
I love the game and will play the rules as they are given.
As long as the rules are clear and concise then there should be no problems.
I have a Practice that Might muddy the waters.
ReplyDeleteIn QCC or urban warfare its usually prudent to cut the corner and expose as little of yourself as possible but from what i understand from the above mentioned rule that would Put me in the wrong. In all honesty i believe all is fair In love and war and dead men tell no tales.
By the way blind fire is a tactic very often used by African gurilla fighters i suggest learning to deal with it and eliminate the oponant would be a better approach.
And to add to the delema your rule also makes it illeagal to be a sniper cause they fire from cover and i usualy cant see them.
